Lake Eola Now Has a Sound System

While giggling children throw bread crumbs to swans and couples walk hand in hand around Lake Eola, the sound syatem generates Jimi Hendrix's guitar blast into every corner of the downtown Orlando park.
The sound system comprises of more than 150 speakers attached to 75 lampposts throughout the park. The city installed the sound system more than six months ago and began testing the sound system music at various hours within the past two weeks.
John Perrone of the city's parks department said the sound system music — a mix of oldies and contemporary hits ranging from Creedence Clearwater Revival and the Rolling Stones to Coldplay and Michael Jackson — is an attempt to "subdue" urban noise.
And that's a good thing for Ebony Hampton, 21, of Winter Park. She reads at Lake Eola Park a few times a week and recently noticed the music from the sound syatem . She said it does help drown out the sound of traffic.
